Solutions > Content Management
Until recently, the only way to manage content on a website was to hire webmasters and programmers. With the help of WebNet’s Content Management System, we put businesses back in control of their websites and allow them to update and manage their online content, such as text, images, or files without any outside assistance. This allows for a more efficient delivery of mission critical information and reduces the operating costs of the website.
The Content Management System (CMS) is an easy to use, yet very advanced and powerful tool that allows users of all knowledge levels to participate in the updating and maintenance of websites of various types and complexities. New pages or even entire sections of the website can be created and managed within a click of a mouse.
Having the ability to update content on your website guarantees significant reductions in operating costs and response time, and increases overall productivity.
Value and Cost Justification
A clear way to reduce or eliminate website maintenance and support fees is to do management of your website’s content in-house. Some web developers prefer to have the ongoing maintenance business, but we realize that it is not very cost effective for most organizations. We provide the tools that allow companies to have complete control over the content of their site, and on their own timetable. Having the capability to do this maintenance and updating in-house increases the overall ROI (Return on Investment) of your website.
Advantages to Content Management
With our Content Management system, the content of the site is kept separate from the presentation (the look of the site), the site can be easily redesigned without any change to the actual content, such as text, images, or uploaded files. Keeping the content separate from the look of the site also allows effective delivery of content to any device or media, present, future, or legacy, allowing for a more rapid response to new protocols or emerging standards. Finally, keeping your website updated on a regular basis will help you gain better positions in search engines that re-evaluate your site’s positioning based on how often in it is updated. It will also have your audience coming for back for more updates.
CMS EDITOR [Back To Top]
With the help of our Content Management, modifying the content on your website is as simple as browsing to the page that requires updating and pressing an “Edit” button to pull up the editable content on that page. Our state-of-the-art Content Management Editor features interfaces that are very intuitive and similar to Microsoft Word™. They allow for editing and formatting of content in a user-friendly and highly visual environment, which is familiar to most users, and does not require any special knowledge of programming or web development.
Our Content Management System is fully compatible with Microsoft Office™ products such as Microsoft Word™ and Excel™, allowing the user to copy and paste content from any of these programs. It also preserves all of the styles and formatting from the original documents. CMS also offers the ability to upload images and files, and position them anywhere throughout the text, applying text styles and formatting without disturbing the site’s design consistency or individual page layouts. For example, the system allows uploading files such as Adobe™ PDF documents, PowerPoint™ presentations, or Word™ documents, and linking to them from the text. This provides the ability to upload existing documents directly to the site, such as corporate bulletins, profiles, brochures, and other electronic materials.
The CMS Editor also features support of advanced formatting such as tables, special characters and foreign languages. It even includes a spellchecker and a preview mode allowing you to preview any changes made to a page before publishing it to the live website.
STRUCTURE MANAGEMENT [Back To Top]
The Content Management System can be equipped with the Structure Management System that allows the designated site administrators to alter the structure and the navigation of the website by adding new pages and deleting or modifying existing ones. For example, the system would allow creating a new page and placing it under an existing section, while automatically updating all of the navigation menus throughout the site to include the newly added page. The newly created page will instantly become available for editing purposes through the Content Management System. Similar to adding new pages to the site, the system will also allow editing, renaming and deleting (or temporarily disabling) existing pages and moving them to different sections of the site.
The Structure Management System allows the administrator to completely restructure the website, and supports any number of sections of any depth and complexity. Similar to the Content Management System, the Structure Management System does not require knowledge of page layout and design, and requires only a minimal level of training.
EDITORIAL SYSTEM [Back To Top]
Companies with multiple website administrators or editorial staff will enjoy the Editorial System feature of our Content Management System. The Editorial System allows designated managers to review and approve any changes and updates made by other personnel before they are reflected on the live website. The system can be configured to require manager’s approval for any changes made through the Content Management System. For example, once an update by a designated user is complete, the changes will be marked as “Pending” and the system will be awaiting a manager’s approval to post them to the live site. Managers will be automatically presented with a list of changes/additions that require their attention. At that point, they will review each update and either approve it or reject it. If approved, the update or addition will be instantaneously published to the live site. If rejected, the manager will be able to notify the individual who made the update with comments on why it was rejected. Following that, the editor will be able to make the necessary corrections and submit the latest revision for another approval.
The Editorial System keeps track of users working on different sections of the site. The system can be used by multiple users for collaborative editorial work, preventing multiple users from overwriting each others’ work.
Administrators may restrict editorial access for specific users to any sections of the Content Management. For example, such permissions can be set to ensure that a certain user has access permissions to work in one section but does not have access to other sections. Please note that this optional feature requires the Structure Management System.
VERSION CONTROL [Back To Top]
Websites with frequently updated content can be equipped with a system to automatically keep track of changes to the website. The Version Control option of the Content Management System can automatically archive all of the changes and updates made to the site, so that the previous content can be conveniently restored if needed. A separate section in the Administrative Console will allow viewing of all changes that have been made to the site over time. Each record will include a date/time stamp, the user who made the change, and the content of that change.
The Version Control for Content Management allows the designated personnel administering the site not only to monitor the history of all changes but also to reverse a change or restore any earlier version of a page, if necessary.
MULTILINGUAL SUPPORT [Back To Top]
Websites in multiple languages expand the customer base and advance the business into international markets. Many international companies offer their websites in multiple languages for the convenience of their customers around the world.
WebNet’s Content Management System can be equipped with Multilingual Support feature, allowing for the translation of the content of the entire site into multiple languages. The system is fully dynamic, allowing the addition and removal of support for different languages. The International or multilingual CMS Support allows for efficient updates in multiple languages through the standard Content Management tools and keeps track of page translations.
With the multilingual Content Management System installed, website visitors will be able to choose their preferred language with a selector located on the front-end of the website. Their language preference will be preserved – next time they return to the website, it will automatically be shown in the language of their choice.
